Giving Thanks!

The K's cannot believe that it's that time of the year, but here it is! In AZ the temps have dropped drastically in the last 2 weeks and it's starting to feel like the holidays. There's already a sense of hustle and bustle on the streets and in the stores. It's our most favorite season!

Tomorrow we will both be celebrating with family....enjoying good food and lots of laughter. It's been a year of change around here, and we have so much to be grateful for:

The K's are out-of-this-world excited about our new partnership with Rodan & Fields dermatology! The same doctors who brought Proactiv to the world, and made a whole lot of acne go buh bye, are now launching into the anti-aging market. We've been using the products for about 6 weeks (Katie uses the Unblemish regimen; Kendra the Reverse....two different types of skin with equally fabulous results!) and neither of us can believe what a huge difference it's made to our skin! Insane! And you know the saying about doors closing & windows opening? Well R&F was our window. The word respect has been on our minds a lot these days. Whether it's in regards to teaching our children life lessons, treating the bodies God gave us properly or working through bumps in important relationships, respect is a necessary foundation. But how does one define what the word really means?

Here's what dictionary.com says:

We, well one of us in particular , is really struggling with the boundaries of respect right now. Without it, all valuable relationships lose their luster. It needs to be mutual, compassionate and non-judgemental. But when it's gone, as in really gone, it's lights out. That's when self-respect kicks in and we have to learn to breathe (see yesterday's post!) and move on.

We can always find a way to bring Blue October into a conversation, and this one is no different. If you listen carefully to the words of the following song, you'll hear Justin Furstenfeld singing about love, sadness & knowing when to move on. We think it's the perfect way to define respect:

Breathe

Life is a journey. Oftentimes we are too focused on the destination, and as a result, we don't see the mountains through the trees. Then something happens and we decide to just sit. And breathe. Feel. Live, laugh, cry, wallow, sleep, see, then live & laugh some more. What your "something" might be can be huge, or miniscule. It doesn't matter what it is. What matters is that you stop and recognize it. Learn, grow and then move on. Just remember to breathe.

We both read the book Eat Pray Love a few years back and then saw the movie last week. To say we loved it is a gigantic understatement. This song says it all:

Dear Justin,

This is Cali. No, really, it is. I'm sitting at my mom's computer typing real fast before she catches me. Not easy to do with paws, but I'm getting good at it. I don't want my mom to realize that I am as smart as I am. I like her thinking I'm dumb because then I don't have to be the perfect dog. Traveler is really the stupid one here....she thinks she's sooooo perfect with her big butt that shakes when she walks. And what's up with all of those nipples? That's just straight up sick. Every single time she rolls over for a belly rub I want to barf.

Anywho, I felt real bad about getting my mom mad at me and then you getting mad at her today. Personally, I think it's your mom's fault. She's always walking in here with some flowy-a*% clothes on and practically waves it in front of my face. Like I'm not gonna chew on that?? Plus she smells real good. Kinda reminds me of dog food. But I really should mind my "manners" like my biatch mom is always saying. So I will try my hardest to not bite your mom's clothes any more.

I thought you would like to know the s*%# I pulled on my mom after you left. She opened the front door to talk to some bratty kid on the front porch and I TOOK OFF. It was awesome! The wind was blowing in my hair, my ears were flapping and I was flying like the wind. It was freaking hilarious to turn and see my barefoot mom running behind me. HAHAHA!!! I let her catch me and then made her carry me back home. Then, when she was outside doing something else, I chewed up her favorite black flip flops. I was actually doing everyone else a favor though. Those were some stanky shoes. She wasn't happy with me at all (kinda hard to blame it on Traveler when I had the strap in my mouth....oopsies) but she didn't spank me. I swear. She said something about how you would get a kick out of me winning. Haha! Take that biiiiiiaaaaaattttttccccchhhhh!

I just want you to know how much it means to me that you always have my back. You are my most favorite human. I love it when you come over. It makes me really happy.

Uh oh. I hear my mother aka Cruella De Ville. Don't be mad at her anymore, k? She loves you so much....trust me....I hear her talking about what a good kid you are all the freaking time.

We have been following your story from afar and cannot tell you how much you inspire us. We can only hope to have a fraction of your strength, courage and faith someday. As you slept and healed, we read Courtney's posts and prayed for you. We devoured each word you wrote as your journey to your new life began. We waited patiently for you to show us your reflection, and were amazed by your beauty when you did. Your eyes tell such a story!

Last week, we held a mini-balloon launch in your honor. It was a beautiful Scottsdale day, and we watched as the balloons traveled to the Heavens. With each one, we thought of you!

I've attached some pictures of our Nie Nie Day. Our kids, Justin (11), Grace (9) & Sophie (7), were thrilled to be a part of it.

After seeing Food Inc.! It was such an amazing movie that opened our eyes to the ugly truths behind our food industry. It will change the way you shop & eat. Although it's very painful at times, we couldn't recommend it highly enough. We even took our kids. It was a big learning experience for them as well.

Earlier this month, The K's enjoyed the cool temps of Flagstaff, AZ....and some summer football! Kendra's son Justin attended the O-D football camp & loved every minute of it. Well, almost every minute...it was hard work!

Yesterday, Kendra got an email from the VP of O-D telling her that they used her pics for the homepage of the website. Check it out here. BTW, that's Justin with James Jones from the Green Bay Packers. So proud of both Kendra and Justin! If your son is in need of an awesome football camp we highly recommend O-D! But will do it anyway! Here's a great email we just received from a DVD (aka Productions) client. We were very grateful for both the job and the kind words! Thanks, Schapira family!

Creating a WOW for a 50th Wedding Anniversary is a challenge. We did it, thru the efforts of The K's. We handed a bunch of photos, in what we thought was in sequential order, and they made a beautiful love story out of it. The music, the words, the pattern of pictures was UNBELIEVALBE. The first time I saw the video – I cried in joy the entire time. Even better, at the event when we surprised my mom and dad with the video – the entire room was in awe.

Thank you The K's P's for creating a lifelong memory for my family. Not only do we have 1930 – 2009 pictures of our entire family, we have a joyful video to watch all the time!!! The music was PERFECT!!!

The K's are huge music fans. We both feel as if we couldn't live without it. Michael Jackson was, and will always be, one of our collective favorites. His influence resonates today in the artists we adore, and his songs will be a part of our soundtrack forever. As we sit in our homes and prepare to watch his memorial service, we want to give a shout-out on our own little blog. We honor you, MJ, and will be forever grateful for your amazing talents.

It's been a tough week for The K's. I (Katie) lost my beloved Mimi last Saturday night and am having a really hard time dealing with it. The fact that I'll never see her again, or be able to tell her that I love her just once more, is a tough one for me to swallow. Mimi was an amazing woman, filled with empathy, compassion, serenity, faith and love. She was an inspiration to all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her passing has left an enormous hole in my heart. One of the last things she was able to say to me was simple, yet extremely profound: "Be happy." I am choosing to do just that.....Kendra and I both are. Our little business has given us so much joy in the last few months and we both look forward to growing it into what we know it can become. I will try to make my Mimi proud, to feel her smile down upon me, for the rest of my life. I hope those of you who are reading this will take that journey with us. It's gonna be a great ride! :)

Tomorrow, the Colley family will say goodbye to our wonderful Claudia. There will never be anyone quite like her. As we gather to mourn, cry, share and laugh with each other, we know that she will be with us in spirit....free from pain and reunited with so many loved ones. Rest in peace, Mimi. We all love you so much. I hope to see you again someday.

I also need to give a shout-out to Kendra's beautiful Nana, with whom Kendra is so close. Her favorite song, coincidentally, is "Don't Worry, Be Happy." So the fact that our new mantra is Be Happy is actually a tribute to both The Mimi and The Nana. Isabel rocks! We look forward to MANY more years with her ahead. Love you, Nana!

So it is with teary eyes and a heavy heart, that I leave for California. This weekend, take the time to hug your kids and tell your family & friends that you love them. Do what you love. Sing your favorite song really loudly in your car. Eat that chocolate cake. Have that glass of wine. Turn off the computer and play a board game with your kids. If you can, call your Grandma & tell her you love her. When you do that part, think of me. I would do anything to be able to make that call again.....

We love it and are so very grateful! We had a photography job shooting all the products for Precious Petals, and are now building their site too. Good stuff! The owner LouLou was such a pleasure to work with and her stuff is darling!! We ended up buying a few items for ourselves after we finished the job. Here are few samples...

We had a great day today! Thanks to our pal, Sassy, we have been hired to help plan a 40th birthday party for a very lucky lady (who shall remain nameless.....it's going to be a surprise!). We are so totally excited about it!

The K's took a kickboxing class at BRICKS yesterday and had SO much fun. It is the best way to get some serious aggression out! We are both in a world of hurts today, though! Like big time OUCH! The K's are HUGE football fans and are always up for a good game! The Super Bowl is usually a cause for celebration....regardless of who's playing. But who would've ever thought that our hometown boys would be in this year's big one! We truly love the Steelers and are often sporting yellow & black on fall/winter Sundays, but we are super psyched to be rooting for the Cardinals next week. Here's to a good game.....and an AZ victory!

So today started off busy and never stopped! After we finished our dvd project for Sleek and Magic, we jumped right into a photo shoot! We were snapping shots for the soon-to-be-opened dance, cheer & fitness mecca, Bricks Studio. No link to their site yet...but very soon! Here is a little montage of some of the pictures from today:

It was super fun and we can't wait to see Bricks grow into Mandy's (the owner as well as Kendra's sister-in-law!) dream come true!

We will soon be wearing shirts with the title of this post across our chests. It started out as a joke, because we are way too AR about how words look when typed (or written...or blogged!). With that said we are going to give our site a mini-makeover tomorrow. We're already tired of the font style on each page. This will make the 3rd change we've made to our little baby since Monday. Why can't dental work or plastic surgery be this easy?

So who's in? Let's give "WTF" a whole new meaning!

Website traffic, that is! It was really cool yesterday to see the back-end reports showing us how many hits we had, the source from which they found us, how long they stayed, etc. Thank you SO much to everyone who gave us such awesome feedback yesterday. We've been so close to our site and missed a couple of minor typos before going live. Poor grammar and/or spelling is Katie's biggest pet peeve (well....one of them anyway!), so we were quick to make the appropriate changes. Kendra brought back some money tree seeds from Colorado (seriously!), so we will be planting them in our yards asap! ;)

We're currently working on a project for Sleekcraft and Magic Powerboats and then have 2 different websites to start on. So exciting!
